I just ate what?!

It is no secret that I am a fairly picky eater. And I do not enjoy trying foods that I have convinced myself I don't like even though I have never tried them. Thanks to Lisa the list of these foods is slowly diminishing :) One of these items is sushi. The thought of me (or anyone else for that matter) eating sushi is just vile to me. I don't know if eating sushi is more of a California thing than a Utah thing or if I just notice it more here but I am always being asked if I like sushi or if I want to go get some sushi. I always just say no. So every week I have conveniently not had time to make it to sushi night before institute. However, due to much guilt and peer pressure, this all changed yesterday. Rachel is one of the first girls I became good friends with out here. After denying many invitations, I finally gave in to join the last sushi night before she moves tomorrow :(

So after a lesson on how to use chopsticks (which was a struggle in and of itself) this little guy is the first one I ate. After hearing the words fish eggs and eel, I decided I didn't really want to know what I was eating. I got the first one down no problem. The second one I ate was HUGE and I could barely fit the whole thing in my mouth. By the time it was all shoved in my mouth I literally could barely chew. It took a while to get down. And though I gagged a few times during the process, I did successfully get it all down. After my third piece, I was thankful that I had another appointment that forced me to leave early.

When I told Kim about my sushi experience she informed me that making me eat that kind of sushi for my first experience was just mean. So today for lunch she got some "california rolls" that were wrapped in avacado and had some kind of crab inside because I needed to be eased into sushi eating with something a little easier. I ate half a roll and called it quits. So while sushi isn't my thing, at least now I can say I have tried it!
After institute a bunch of us went to a cute little kitchen/bakery that just opened. It was such a fun little place and the portions were gigantic. When they brought out Darci's sundae we had a good laugh. The pictures don't do it justice but the brownie on the bottom was at least 6 inches square.
Who needs sushi when you can have a hot fudge brownie sundae? I mean seriously. Overall it was a fun night celebrating and saying goodbye to Rachel. I can't believe I have already been here for 2 months and am saying goodbye to friends. Time flies.

I can't believe you ate sushi!!! You are braver than me. I'm with you, give me a brownie and ice cream any time...

Ha Ha this is just a huge coincidence but Courtney Kelli the Swifts and I were all just talking about having a sushi night. Just to broaden our horizons and try something new. I hate eating cooked fish I don’t know how not cooked is going to be any better. I am impressed that you even tried any of it. Remember when we all tried that nasty cheese…ha-ha good times. Glad you had some ice cream to get rid of the nasty taste.

Sushi?! for real girl? Well it does not even look good so i'm very amazed that you ate it...though I'm half tempted to think you didn't because you posted it on April Fools Day.

Ahh haha. I really did eat it. There are pictures to prove it but they are not on my camera :)
