Adventures...

My friend Alli and I recently decided that we need to start living it up while we are in California so when we leave someday we don't look back and wish we did more. We want to see everything that there is to see and really take in everything that comes with living in California. So...our first stop was Balboa Island. Unfortunately everyone else in the entire state, and their dog, (literally) had the same idea. We discovered that such adventures might be a little smoother sailing if we had a local accompany us due to the fact that we never have a clue where we are or the right way to out smart all the other non locals. Regardless, 2 1/2 hours into the trip (it is located approx. 15 miles from my house mind you) we were there, parked and ready to go. We started off finding something to eat and enjoyed some delicious burgers on the beach. Then we were off to explore. This weekend that we went there happened to be some waves that were absolutely out of control. Seriously. We are talking flooding parking lots, closed beaches, people dying, like big time waves. Hence, a bazillion people wanting to go to "the wedge" which we unlocals finally figured out was a hot surfing spot. After asking several people to point the way and explain what in the world this wedge thing was we decided to go check it out. We were told it was a 30 minute walk or 15 minute bike ride from where we were so we headed off on foot. About 2 minutes into our walk we passed a shop renting beach cruisers. We debated and decided that if we were going to be more adventurous and live it up, we should just go for it and man are we glad we did!!! We headed off on our bikes and seriously had the time of our lives. When we finally had to return the bikes we didn't even know if we had officially made it to "the wedge" or not but we didn't care. We had so much fun just cruising around the island. All in all it was an awesome start to our series of adventures. We saw some AMAZING waves, pretty beaches, and vowed to never move away from California :) There are the cutest, quaint little neighborhoods all over the place. We were stuck in this neighborhood on the way and the mailman honestly hand delivered the mail and chatted with people along the way. It was precious. This pretty much sums up the first 2.5 hours of the day.

BEACH CRUISERS! I'm so happy you did that. That is one of my dreams in life. Also, I wish that you had tried to climb on some rocks out in the ocean.
